A World-Renowned Conductor's Workshop

I had the special privilege of being asked to sit on a committee that was organizing a very special event.  Mack Wilberg, who is the conductor for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, was going to visit the Twin Cities in a goodwill gesture to give a free choral director's workshop.  How could I pass up such an amazing opportunity.  I felt humbled to share any knowledge I had of special event planning.

The big day was yesterday and Mack Wilberg did a superb job.  He was so humble, knowledgeable, intelligent, experienced, etc.  It was a blessing for him to share his wisdom.  And this is all coming from a man with a PhD in music, has won Grammy's and Emmy's, and has traveled the world leading the Mormon Tabernacle Square at Temple Square.

The only horrible, awful thing to go wrong with the day, was all my fault.  I was absolutely sickened by it and frustrated with myself over it.  I took over 100 pictures and did not realize until I got home that there was no memory card in my camera!  AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.  There, I got my scream out.

I feel better now.

Temporarily, anyway.  I am sure it will haunt me for the rest of my life, actually.

What exactly is the Mormon Tabernacle Choir you may ask?  Dr. Wilberg reminded us they have been performing on CBS radio since the 1920's!  They do a weekly broadcast called Music and the Spoken Word every Sunday (sorry I don't know what channel it's on because I don't receive it) and millions of viewers tune in each week.  They have been dubbed "America's Choir" because they often sing at presidential inaugurations and the Olympics and they tour the country each summer giving concerts.  They are moving and give you chills and stir your soul.

Here are few links to enjoy.  They have a channel on YouTube, there are tons of performances to look at.

And if you don't know what Temple Square is, we've actually visited it a few times when we've traveled Out West from our Land of Lakes.  Here are a few pictures from a few years ago.  It is located in Salt Lake City Utah, and I think my children dream of getting married in this holy, sacred place.

(My husband with his niece on his shoulders.  She is staring at the temple.  Love this photo!)

Lastly, here is the flyer, one of the few ways I have to document the event.  Is it not surprising that I forgot my memory card when obviously I am not that great with technology as you can see from the odd size of loading the flyer.

So next time you need some soul-stirring or soul-soothing music, tune it to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.  I am sure it will lift your spirits.
